Chittagong Textile Engineering College is one of the technical schools known in Bangladesh and is governed by the Faculty of Science, University of Chittagong. It plays an important role in the textile-education in Bangladesh.

The Faculty of Textile Engineering is located next to the old DT (Dhaka Trunk) Road running through Zorargonj Bazaar. It was founded in 1911 as Peri-patetic Weaving School, which is the result of
 "SHAWDESHI ANDULLON" was during the British regime.

He was taken to the nearby Dewanpur entry point Mohuri Road Project in 1960. In 1980, the course of the School of Peri-patetic substance promoted to the two-year diploma in textile technology, which is named District Textile Institute.

 General Admission procedure and admission requirements:
 Admission to Chittagong Textile Engineering College is highly competitive and needs a high academic attainment at the S.S.C and H.S.C level. Selection of the students for admission is made through admission test of 200 marks and considering GPA of SSC and HSC (Details in Notice board) student get chance to take admission according to merit.

The entry requirements for admission test are as follows:

01. Students must be Bangladeshi by birth.
02. Passed SSC (Science) with GPA 3.50 (without 4th subject) from any discipline.
03. Passed HSC (Science) or equivalent exam of the current academic year obtaining at least GPA 3.5 and on an average at least GP 4.00 but individually not below grade point 3.0 in physics, chemistry and mathematics.

Following rules applicable for the students of O level and A level

01. Must pass in B grade on a average in five subjects.
02. In the A level examination the students must have B grade in mathematics, physics and chemistry.
03. No D Grade will be allowed in any subject.

Workshops and laboratories of the Faculty of Chittagong Textile Engineering are equipped with the latest machinery and equipment, which is similar to an international standard.

Yarn manufacturing laboratory

This laboratory provides practical knowledge of spinning preparation technology both short staple (cotton) and long fibers (jute). The laboratory facilities includes both conventional and modern machinery with new technology, such as open-end spinning, air jet spinning, etc.

weaving laboratory

The laboratory has to weave cotton, synthetic and jute fabric as a pusher, and dobby woven Jacard powered loom, ordinary power loom, the possibility of automatic loom and modern loom with CAD system. Modern looms include loom, electronic jacquard rapier looms.

This laboratory is equipped with warp knitting machines and plot. Warp machinery includes both raschel and tricot machine and weft circular knitting machine includes (single jersey, interlock, rib, jacquard) and flat machine.

Wet Processing Laboratory

This laboratory includes singeing machines, desizing, mercerizing, dyeing, printing and finishing. Students are able to achieve. In addition, this laboratory has computerized color, wholesale gas chromatography and spectrophotometer, light fastness and other quality equipment needed for dyeing and finishing equipment quality.light strength and other quality control ensure necessary to ensure the quality dyeing and finishing.
