Shah Jalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) was established in 1987. The only university of its kind at the time, began his career in the first Phalgun (February 13, 1991), with only three departments: Physics, Chemistry and Economics, 13 teachers and 205 students. Now, in mid-2011, has been extended to seven schools, 25 departments and one institute. The number of teachers has risen to 424 and 9262 students. In addition, the University has six affiliated medical schools under the School of Medical Sciences with 2744 students. SUST introduced the integrated honors course for the first time in Bangladesh. Semester system was introduced in the 1996-1997 session and there was a marked improvement in the quality of education after the introduction of this system, which was visible even at national level.
