Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology is one of the most prestigious universities in the north of Bangladesh offering Engineering and Technological education effectively. It was founded in 1964 as a faculty of Engineering under the University of Rajshahi providing four years? Graduate Certificate in Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronics and Mechanics.
However, the institution would not achieve their goal due to complicated management system: The government was controlled by the Ministry of Education, academic curriculum at the University of Rajshahi and infrastructure development and maintenance by the Ministry of Public Works. To avoid the above problems were formed various Committees since 1973. Upon recommendation of the committees / commissions and having considered the practical, has for autonomy to give to the four technical colleges to taken them from the centers of technology and formed a committee member high powered 15 led by Professor Dr. Wahid Uddin Ahmed, a historic step the then vice-Chancellor of BUET.
